See every problem as an opportunity
to exercise creative energy.
– Stephen Covey
After attending college focusing on art, design and advertising, I started working at an ad agency as a studio artist. I learned the ins-and-out of an agency and working my way up to a junior art director. My first creative director, David Hadley, once told me: Behind every good idea is an even better idea. That was when I realized that challenges and obstacles make me work harder and push through to better ideas. Throughout the years I worked my way up to creative director and continue to meet every challenge as an opportunity to do better.
I have experience branding international companies, designing logos, illustration, websites and advertising. I can’t imagine not being creative. I like to learn how things work, meet people and hear about their experiences and then apply that knowledge to my creativity. Inspiration is all around us, all the time. We just need to take a moment to stop and take them in.
Just before starting a family, the wasband* and I had a discussion about who should stay home, as we both grew up with a parent at home, we wanted to give our children the same. When it came to earning potential, he had it. That day forward, I dedicated my new “career” to my children and have never looked back with regret. While the kids were growing, I kept staying creative by volunteering, freelance design and being a mom.
*Wasband: [wuhz-buhnd], noun; was once my husband but is no longer.
